DNA Bank of the Senckenberg Forschungsinstitut und Naturmuseum, Frankfurt, (SFNF) and Biodiversität und Klima Forschungszentrum (BiK-F)

DescriptionThe DNA bank of the SFNF and BiK-F currently holds about 5000 DNA samples of animals, fungi and plants stored at -80 °C. The constantly growing collection comprises among others South American plants (with a focus on Bromeliaceae), as invasive plant species from the surroundings of Frankfurt, Oomycetes and South American Lepidoptera. DNA samples are available for research purposes and will be shipped at cost price upon request. The DNA bank is part of the Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN) which was founded in 2011. The network provides a technically optimized DNA collection service facility for all biological research accessible via one central web portal. The network promotes deposition of well documented reference DNA samples after project completion or data publication from scientists of other universities and institutions.
